Critters on The Ranch

The four-legged critters vastly outnumber the human-types around here.

LucyLou is the queen. But, apparently, armadillos do not belong in her court.

At the moment, there's only 2 geldings in the horse department -- we have resisted expanding until the ranch is in good shape and there is 'extra' time for actually using them. The canine pack keeps expanding -- not a planned event, but not discouraged either. Current head-count is 5 on that one. And, of course, there are a few cats to kill off the billions of crickets that migrate into the house.

If wildlife counts, there's a stray skunk down by the barn, road-runners along the drive, and an armadillo that visits occasionally. NOT to mention the pack of coyotes that makes an almighty racket every few nights. Of course, you DO have to watch out for the black-widows, scorpions, fire-ants, and copperheads. But hey, no place is perfect.

On the not-so-wild side, there's also the de rigeur cattle hanging out in the field. Those lawn-mooers keep the pasture from getting over-run and get sold-off for steak and hamburger eventually. No longhorns here - although one neighbor (just over the fence) runs a herd of bucking-stock, so there are plenty of horns over there.
