Out here in wild, woolly North Texas, our little ranch on a hill is a beautiful retreat. Sitting up here, we can see for miles in most directions, overlooking hayfields, woods, and cattle pastures. Our neighbors on 3 sides have four hooves and horns, so it feels bigger than it is.
And god bless that hill, because when the town flooded, and people had livestock trapped in waist-deep water we just thought it was the worst rainstorm we had heard in a while...
